Durham University Scholarships 2024-25
We are committed to supporting the best students irrespective of financial circumstances. The following scholarships and bursaries are funded by the University, through partnerships with external organizations, or through generous donations from alumni and friends of the University. - ANID (PGT + PGR)
- Support: ANID, formerly CONICYT, is the Chilean government student funding organization.
- Who’s it for?: Chilean students.
- How much?: 25% tuition fee discount.

- British Council Scholarships for Women in STEM (PGT)
- Support: One-year, fully funded scholarship to complete a master’s degree at a UK university.
- Who’s it for?: Women researchers from eligible countries.
- How much?: Full payment of tuition fees.
- Open Date: January 2024.
- Close Date: Midnight (GMT) on 16 April 2024 (academic application) & 30 April 2024 (scholarship application).
- Chevening Scholarships (PGT)
- Support: UK’s global scholarship programme funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organizations.
- Who’s it for?: International students who are citizens of a Chevening-eligible country and intend to return there for a minimum of 2 years after their Chevening Award has finished.
- How much?: Various, up to £18,000.
- Open Date: 12th September 2023.
- Close Date: 7th November 2023.
- Chinese Scholarship Council (PGR)
- Support: Partnership award with the Chinese Scholarships Council.
- Who’s it for?: Citizens and permanent residents of mainland China wishing to study for a PhD.
- How much?: Various; includes payment of full tuition fees and other living allowances, including health cover, airfare, and visa application fees.

- Colfuturo (PGT PGR)
- Support: Colombian non-profit foundation supported by the Colombian government.
- Who’s it for?: Colombian students.
- How much?: 20% tuition fee discount for PGT/PGR (apart from MBA) and one 100% tuition fee discount for a Taught Masters programme (apart from MBA).

- Commonwealth Masters Scholarships (PGT)
- Support: Funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).
- Who’s it for?: Students from low and middle-income Commonwealth countries.
- How much?: Various; includes payment of full tuition fees and other living allowances.

- Commonwealth Shared Scholarships (PGT)
- Support: For specific MSc and MA programs at Durham.
- Who’s it for?: Citizens of eligible Commonwealth countries or British Protected Persons.

- Commonwealth PhD Scholarships (PGR)
- Support: Funded by the UK FCDO for PhD programmes and professional development.

- Commonwealth Split-Site Doctoral Scholarships
- Support: Funded by the UK FCDO for PhD students studying at eligible universities across the Commonwealth to conduct research at a UK institute for 12 months.
- Who’s it for?: Students registered for a PhD at a university in an eligible Commonwealth country.
- How much?: Various; includes payment of full tuition fees and other living allowances.

- CONAHCyT (PGT)
- Support: The National Council of Science and Technology (Conacyt) is the Mexican government institution responsible for establishing public policies on the humanities, science, technology, and innovation.
- Who’s it for?: Students from Mexico.
- How much?: Durham University accepts the maximum tuition fee provided by CONAHCyT (MXN 200,000, approx. £9,400), without the need for students to make any contribution from their own funds.

- Durham Palestine Educational Trust (PGT)
- Support: An independent UK charity assisting the social and economic development of Palestine by providing scholarships for Palestinian graduates.
- Who’s it for?: Students from Palestinian Occupied Territories. Specific eligibility criteria.
- How much?: Up to £13,000 per student.

- Fulbright – Durham Scholarship (PGT)
- Support: The US-UK Fulbright Commission focuses on opportunities and exchanges between the USA and the UK, as part of a global programme.
- Who’s it for?: US citizens, resident anywhere except the United Kingdom before commencing study.
- How much?: Full tuition fee scholarship, and up to $15,609 for living costs, plus travel.

- FUNED (PGT)
- Support: A non-profit organization providing reimbursable educational and financial support to Mexican students to pursue master’s degrees of excellence abroad.
- Who’s it for?: Mexican students.
- How much?: 10% discount on tuition fee for the duration of the programme.

- Support: Available for most programmes, except business school and some named exclusions.

- Marshall Scholarship (PGT)
- Support: Finances young Americans of high ability to study for a degree in the UK.

- Ruth First Scholarship
- Support: Enables southern African students from historically disadvantaged backgrounds to undertake postgraduate study.
- Who’s it for?: Students from Southern Africa: Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Republic of South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
- How much?: Full tuition fees, stipend for living expenses in monthly payments, one return travel, accommodation at St Chad’s College, and a contribution to visa costs.

- Rise Scholarships (UG)
- Support: An initiative of Schmidt Futures and the Rhodes Trust that finds promising young people and provides them with opportunities to work together to serve others over their lifetimes.
- Who’s it for?: Rise winners from around the globe.
- How much?: Full payment of tuition fees, plus winners can also receive funding for a living stipend, accommodation, visa and immigration costs, and health surcharges. See Rise website for more information.

- Said Foundation Scholarship (PGT)
- Support: Offers scholarships to individuals who can demonstrate the potential to become leaders and innovators of change.
- Who’s it for?: Students from Syria, Palestine, Lebanon, and Jordan.
- How much?: Full tuition fees, full living expenses, one return travel, and other allowances including thesis, visa fees, and IHS fees.
